An American Beauty rose, known as Miss All-American Beauty, is a fragrant hybrid tea rose, capable of lasting a long time as a cut flower. The rose is known as the national flower of the United States. Unfortunately, it is prone to rot and rust (Jo). In Sam Mendes' award-winning film American Beauty, these roses are everywhere. Besides the roses, each character involved is chasing their version of American beauty. The title of the film is appropriate, which is why the entire plot revolves around the American beauty of the characters. American Beauty Roses are seen in various scenes as they stand out to viewers when they appear in specific scenes. As the plot unfolds, the viewer can notice that, just like these beautiful roses, they are prone to rot; the characters' American beauties tend to be illusions, easily destroyed. A man of discipline, Colonel Fitts plays an unexpected role in the film. Her form of American beauty is a military family. After serving the country, he wants to move his family to the suburbs and live an ideal family life. Everything spirals out of control as soon as the Fitts family moves in. Colonel Fitts' neighbors are the Burnham family and partners Jim Olmeyer and Jim Berkley. When the Fitts move in with the gay neighbors, reach out to them and welcome them to the neighborhood. The characters believe that their versions of American beauties will bring them happiness, but what the plot expresses is quite the opposite. The characters are not happy, they are looking for the beauties they think are the most ideal. As the film unfolds, the beauty of the characters brings darkness to them.
