On Thursday, January 20, 2005, President Bush delivered his second inaugural address after being sworn in for his second term. In his speech, Bush promised to keep his word and fulfill his duty as President of the United States. These duties were not respected according to the numerous demonstrators present at his inauguration. In his inaugural address, Bush covered a lot. The inaugural address was a speech that would reassure the American people that President Bush will lead us to victory. In his speech, Bush promises to uphold the oath he took. He said: “The survival of freedom in our country depends more and more on the success of freedom in other countries. The best hope for peace in our country is the expansion of freedom throughout the world” (www.cnn.com). This means that to maintain peace and freedom, we must help countries that suffer from dictatorship and terrorism. Peace and freedom are America's vital interests. It is said that every person in this world has equal rights. “No one deserves to be a slave,” Bush said (www.cnn.com). The speech states that it is the policy of the United States to support the growth of democratic movements. Bush also said he would step up security. The government is working to improve security tactics and ensure they are strong and effective. Bush will make other nations understand the choice between oppression and freedom.
