The Future of Health Care DeliveryMore than 48 million people in the United States are without health insurance. In 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama. The ACA will begin providing coverage at different times in each state, which will depend on where they live and which party controls their state. Currently, Massachusetts offers coverage to almost all residents. The Court's decision to make the ACA's Medicaid expansion voluntary and opposition from Republican states means coverage expansion will be slower. Most states that did not support Medicaid expansion were in the South and believed the state “just couldn’t afford it.” The United States has been found to spend more on health care than any other country, but performs worse on most health measures.
