Essay / Reflecting on Values and What Matters - 940
Everyone is different, and different people result in different values. We can't all come to a common understanding of what should be an "important" value for everyone, because we don't agree on what we should value. Many variables create the difference between everyone's values, whether it's their past, their future, their morals, their family, their culture or their life lessons. As a young adult, I believe I have managed to find what I value in my life at this point where my life has taken me. I have come to appreciate things that I cannot hold on to. These things I can't have forever or I will change them. My values are not materialistic things, all the money in the world can buy time, respect and relationships. I have come to understand that time cannot be possessed. Time waits for no one and nothing. Even if you can't touch it, you can see it. He will continue no matter if you beg him to slow down or stop. It won't destroy itself for you. In the blink of an eye, time can completely change lives. I've come to value time, no matter if it's other people's or my own. I barely remember my maternal grandmother. She was my only grandparent still alive when I was born. I wish I had more time to remember her better. She died a few years after I was born and I barely remember her pale face. As I become a woman with age, I realize that everyone around me is getting older too. My mother, the only woman who can see through me, is a pure reason why I enjoy time the way I do. Despite all her health problems, she manages to be the core of my family. I wish time would stop to show my appreciation to my mother for everything she has done for my family, myself... middle of paper ......tity of them.At the end of the day, different people value different things. I'm just saying what I like, but like I mentioned, it won't be the same for everyone. I understand that we are all different and that many variables have shown us what we should value. Values are not born within an individual, they are taught and put into practice. Values are not always presented in daily life. This makes it easily forgettable, but value has such great power over someone just by its meaning. The meaning can simply remind someone who, what and why their value is worthy in their eyes. Just seeing this “thinking about value” essay brought out a lot of things that were important to me. This brought me to some deep thoughts and emotions that I am experiencing. It also reminded me of what I consider my values and how I was taught them and how I should teach them, because they can easily be forgotten..
