Essay / The Bike Ride - 728
Darkness loomed above me, the few remaining stars twinkling sporadically, as if the void was suffocating them. I said goodbye to my friends at the comic book store, my usual Thursday night stop. I grabbed my bike and started pedaling, preparing myself for the arduous journey home. Shortly after, I entered the maze-like development aptly named “Fireside.” I was cycling at a leisurely pace, after all I had taken this route at least once a week. On top of that, York, Pennsylvania is the most boring town ever...what could happen? I continued driving nonchalantly, until suddenly a harsh voice shouted: "Hey you!...Come here!" I don't talk to strangers. I replied, sarcasm dripping from my lips. Being a cautious individual, I began pedaling at a slightly accelerated pace. The car's V8 engine roared as the driver slammed the pedal to the floor. A mischievous smile graced his lips. In his mind, it was all over. Unable to accept the idea of being killed on the road, I did the only thing I could... I turned the handlebars of my bike with all my might, left the road and am directed towards a neighboring courtyard. A sign of relief escaped my lips. . I was homeless, until I noticed the bushes moving towards me at an alarming rate. I braked suddenly... too late. The bike skidded through the foliage, my body was attacked from all sides by the evil plant. Darkness engulfed me briefly, as the members did their work. Finally, I broke through the wall of thorns and entered the nearby courtyard. I stood there for a few minutes, the cold floor soothing the pain that resonated throughout my body as blood flowed profusely..
