Orators of the era are best known for their ability to touch people with words. One of those people is President Obama. He has a way of making people remember what he said. This is because; he uses styles in his speech that capture the interest and emotions of the listener. Conversely, a speaker may want to make a certain point, but the choice of technique may prevent that point from being conveyed to the audience. Based on this, it is essential that speakers not only say the words they deem appropriate, but also choose the techniques that will influence the delivery of the desired message. Information regarding the styles and techniques used by the speaker can only be gathered if the speech is critically analyzed. As a result, one of President Obama's speeches is going to be analyzed. SOAPSPresident Obama's 2014 State of the Union address will be analyzed. The President delivered this speech on January 28, 2014 in Washington DC. The speech was delivered before a joint session of Congress. Thesis Statement Pathos, logos and ethos are techniques incorporated into speeches to ensure that the audience is reached. However, the use of any of these techniques must be carefully considered so as to have a positive impact on the transmission of the desired information. Speakers make the desired point by capturing the emotions of the audience. Some concern various scenarios likely to interest the public. Additionally, some speakers use approved facts. Conclusion A speech uses information that may be of interest to the audience or that is known. This is about ensuring that the information relayed creates the desired impact. The President used factual information, examples, emotions and a persuasive tone to urge leaders to work with him to ensure the well-being of the people. He was able to explain the efforts of the people and the areas where the leaders might fail to positively influence the people. As a result, he taught people the methods that can be effective in ensuring they remain committed to the people they serve. Furthermore, he had explained his personal commitment to the same.
