Essay / Human Consciousness - 2574
Technological developments are an integral part of human history. In recent years, studies indicate that technological advancements have penetrated the human way of life, thereby changing people's daily lives. One area of human life that has been affected by technology is human consciousness (Halal, 2008). The emergence of new technologies has had a greater impact on the human form of consciousness. It is worth noting that information, communication and technologies have affected human consciousness in more profound ways. Studies also indicate that the predominant application and use of technology has led to a change in human consciousness, especially with respect to individuals' cognition, sense of self, perception, and memory. This article seeks to critically analyze the impact of communication, information and technology on these elements of human consciousness. Studies indicate that consciousness and the mind have been dominated by modern technology. However, it seems more problematic to understand consciousness and the outstanding questions surrounding the effects of technology on the mind. Many theorists and authors have grown tired of defining the word consciousness according to their disciplines. This article adopts Ray Kurzweil's definition of what consciousness means. He defined consciousness as a subjective experience that allows human beings to have a sense of perception and self-awareness. Based on this definition, consciousness implies that consciousness is what determines human survival. Therefore, it can be said that with the emergence of new technologies, human survival has undergone enormous changes that have changed the way people feel, imagine, their culture and beliefs, their choices, their behaviors. ... ..d memory that has changed the structure of the brain where many people use technological memory devices rather than their brains to retain memory of ideas or experiences. This is believed to result from a degradation of human memory, where the individual cannot recall information due to over-reliance on technological memory devices (Elsweiler, Ruthven & Jones, 2007). In summary, the impact of technology on consciousness is immense. Both in practical and theoretical terms, technology offers greater opportunities for the development of human consciousness while remaining a greater threat to it. Nevertheless, if people want to get the most out of these technologies on the development of consciousness, it is necessary to accept their positive value while working to reduce their negative aspects on the development of sense of self, cognition, perception and memory..
