Essay / The German Invasion of Denmark - 703
It has now been three years since the Germans invaded Denmark, and it is currently 1943. The Danish people burned their ships to prevent the Germans from using their battleships, and protected their king. German forces called Nazis quickly eliminate the Jews. The Jews find themselves in a very difficult situation. Some hide in vain and others try to escape to a safe country like Sweden, Poland, the United States and Switzerland, but most have already been taken by the Nazis to a concentration camp. Even when it seemed futile, spies attempted to resist the Germans and bring the Jews to safety. One of these Jews who tries to escape is a young girl named Ellen. She went through a very difficult time. Ellen was left alone by her parents and told they would return when it was safe. While she was alone, she knew she would be taken away if she didn't do something. Ellen was lucky and got to stay with the brother-in-law of her best friend's father, Henrik. After a few days at Henrik's house, one evening there is a funeral, and Ellen finds her parents at this funeral, who have been disturbed by the Nazi soldiers. Annemarie, her best friend and loved ones, along with Ellen's family and loved ones, managed to stop the Nazi from opening the coffin. This happened because what was inside the coffin could cost them their lives if caught by the Germans. With the help of Annemarie's mother, Ellen and her family were to be taken to the docks to eventually be shipped to safety. As one family decided to leave one by one, it was Ellen's turn to leave the house. Annemarie as sad as she is to let her best friend go, she gives up and allows...... middle of paper ......d as family if you didn't tell anyone they weren't not related. Annemarie is very brave to rebel against the Nazis just because of one soul and that inspires me a lot. What scares me about their journey is the consequences they face. A lot of things could happen if they get caught. Most likely, Annemarie will be shot there and Ellen will be taken away. Other things could happen as well, like Ellen's torcher not being spared for the concentration camp. Thinking about what they are truly giving up to help each other is the true definition of humanity. In war, you can really bring out the best in people. Personally, I think humans all over the world should take this friendship as an example, change their habits and stop the war. It really shows that all humans have a chance to move forward..
