The United States of America has always been considered the land of opportunity because it is the only truly free country in the world. This is why the problem of illegal immigration exists and has existed since day one. The defined definition of the term "illegal immigration" is the migration of people across national borders in a manner that violates the immigration laws of the destination country. Thousands of illegal immigrants are entering the borders of the United States. Illegal immigration to the United States is massive. More than 10 million undocumented aliens currently reside in the United States, and this population is growing by 700,000 per year. (“the real problem of immigration…and the real solution”). That “the United States currently pays up to $1.6 billion a year in unemployment insurance benefits to unemployed illegal alien workers” (stop paying illegal aliens, stay unemployed). There are, however, some minor positive impacts, the majority of which are detrimental to the United States. Most people usually find employment to be able to support their family and ensure that they can take care of themselves. The biggest impact on the economy is that most people who immigrate to the United States illegally come here to support their families, who still live in their home countries. Therefore, the American money they earn is sent to foreign countries and spent there. Why does this impact our economy? Well, if money is not spent on goods in our country and goods in foreign countries, it means that money is not circulating in our economy. They also don't pay taxes because they have to be paid under the table. There is no doubt that income taxes are important to our country because they help fund roads and their maintenance, they help pay and support firefighters and police officers, and they fund many government programs. This raises another problem: Illegal immigrants are more willing to take lower-paying jobs with more work. That leaves people who came here legally looking for work or U.S. citizens less likely to get a job. According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, "a recent estimate by researchers at the Pew Hispanic Center puts the number of active illegal aliens at 8 million out of a total population of 11.2 million illegal aliens, or 71.4 percent. This estimate is generally considered reasonable. »(1) Employers hire more illegal immigrants because they will work for low wages. This means that the company they work for will get more profits because their profits are greater than their income.
