  • Essay / The Importance of Agricultural Science Education - 714

I naively believed that agricultural science education was important for the betterment of society, but now I know that it is absolutely essential. I now know that it is imperative that young people know the skills that I clearly took for granted and just thought were common knowledge due to my experience on a farm. My favorite quote is from Joe Martin and although it focuses on the National FFA Organization, I think it perfectly encompasses the industry as a whole. It reads: “The organization has become more than cows, sows and plows; modern FFA is about beakers, speakers, and job seekers. Through this quote we see how far agriculture has progressed since the turn of the century, which means that agricultural science education must have gone just as far. Not only do teachers teach young people about animals, plants and structural mechanics, but they also teach them about job searching, integrity and how to be leaders of the world.
