Although the death penalty and capital punishment have existed for over 4,000 years, many argue that this form of punishment is justifiable and humane in order to ensure the safety of the company. The death penalty should be abolished and banned because it violates an individual's 8th Amendment right and is a long, drawn out and costly process for all parties involved. The 8th Amendment states that excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted. According to the 8th Amendment, the death penalty and other forms of capital punishment should be abolished in order to avoid unnecessary grief to the victim, his or her family and that of the offender. Ultimately, it is wrong for the taxpayers of this country to financially support the perpetrator of a crime until he is finally put to death. The death penalty should be abolished because of problems with the way the state administers punishment. Specifically, it violates an individual's 8th Amendment right.
