Essay / The role of nonviolent action in Congressman Lewis' plan...
People think of prison as a place where you shouldn't end up, but the Freedom Riders proved that it is fake. When they were arrested, they used the prison to organize protests. The goal was to show white people that even behind bars, the freedom movement continues in difficult situations. The blacks refused to post bail and strengthened their resolve to continue fighting. However, this was no fun for the whites because they could not break the strong desire for freedom of the blacks. It may have worked in the past, but going to prison now has a completely negative vibe. It destroys a person's life and reputation and it stays with them wherever they are.
