Individual place in our society affects our experiences, our values and our choicesMy specific place in society really comes down to a few labels, student, uncle, son, adult, Albanian and supplier of all items. Through the roles I play, I have an individual place in society that also comes with power and expectations. Experiences become more meaningful as we grow up in adolescence, we see the world and society in a new light, almost as if it were a different life. Every experience comes with a responsibility that must be acquired before we can truly understand that experience. My place in society also changes my values and my needs. Even more so, I find myself doing “adult” things and having those values assigned to me, then acquiring the need to adapt to those values. I also find myself making choices that are more beneficial to the family. My individual place in society rests primarily with my family and close friends. Role theory is explained as an essential part of general social life and, from birth, roles, obligations and privileges are all attached to your individual status which has been predefined for you. Society has a standard for how one should act based on their labels, starting with being a man or a woman. Once you are labeled in society, they create a social norm that you must follow, which is just a set of basic rules that you must follow to be what society considers the right way to be . Boys playing with soldiers and girls with dolls is an example of how society makes this a norm for families teaching their children. William Shakespeare said, “All the world is a stage, and all the men and women but players.” They have their exits and their entrances; and a man in his time plays many roles” (Henslin). This is an example of general social life of all time...... middle of paper ...... authority. Culture is a very diverse social acceptance that normally only occurs within the culture itself, and the actions taken depend on the set of morals and beliefs that the culture follows. As an Albanian, the mindset is less diverse but more family oriented and emphasizes more the importance of trust and respect. In conclusion, our individual place in society depends on the roles we play. Different roles create a basis for different experiences and different values from that role, and as someone who plays many roles, each experience only builds on your own character. The more you are exposed to different social labels, the more likely you are to fall into a social norm category. As a family oriented individual, my place in society is based more on my family's standards and almost everything comes back to benefits for loved ones..
