Essay / Genetically Modified Foods - 612
Genetically Modified FoodsGenetically modified crops are harmful to humans and the environment and should not be used. Agriculture must take place in harmony with nature and only with it. This is why some people have decided to buy organically grown foods. Based on their experiences with organic foods, they believe that the organic system can be economically practical. This system also offers a wide range of environmental and social benefits and, more importantly, it allows consumers to make a choice about the food they eat. According to American biology professor Diana Brander, we should have a choice in the type of food we eat. But at a time when organic food sales are exploding, the development of agriculture is removing an essential choice about the food we eat and raising important questions about the future of our food and our environment. Genetically modified crops have been proven by the USDA to be a key factor that will increase yields through techniques that are simply an extension of traditional plant breeding methods. The fundamental difference between traditional plant breeding and genetically modified plant breeding is that the genetic material of one species of a plant, bacteria, virus, animal or fish is inserted into another species which, in natural circumstances, could not happen again. We do not know the long-term consequences on human health and the environment of the release of plants selected in this way. The USDA assures us that new plants are tested, but unless a genetically modified crop can be proven to be unsafe or dangerous, there is no reason to stop its use. There may be issues that are not evident for some time that could harm the environment they are in. The USDA tells us that genetics... middle of article ...... has brought enormous benefits to humanity, but there is danger, especially in areas as sensitive as food, health and the long-term future of our environment. We go to great lengths to establish what is technically possible without thinking about the long-term effects it may have on humans and the environment. Many people think we should stop and ask these important questions. Obviously, we all need to make up our own minds on these important issues. Many people have no interest in eating genetically modified foods. The organic food industry is growing bigger and bigger as people become more aware of what they eat and the environment around them. Consumers need to be aware of the harmful effects produced by genetically modified crops. Genetically modified crops are harmful to humans and the environment and should not be used.
