Jackson's father died before he was born. Some of the things Andrew Jackson is best known for, besides being the seventh president, are the abuse of the spoils system, the displacement of thousands of Indians from their native lands, and the destruction of the U.S. Bank, which which ultimately caused depression (en.wikepedia.org/wiki/Andrew_jackson). Andrew Jackson was a major general during the Revolutionary War (www.americapresidents.org). Andrew Jackson was nicknamed Old Hickory because he had a harsh and aggressive personality and, although his soldiers who commanded him adored him (en.wikepedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson); he took advantage of too many things. He took advantage of the Spoil System, the American military and its legislative power. Because of these three elements, the only possible conclusion is that Andrew Jackson has no place in the President's Hall of Fame. First, Andrew Jackson abused the Spoil system by firing everyone who was in office during Washington's presidency and putting his friends, family, and party loyalists in power. Andrew Jackson appointed people to power without any training or prior knowledge in this area (en.wikepedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson). This was a dangerous decision made by President Jackson and one that he should not have had sufficient power to enforce. Jackson could put anyone he wanted in power; there were really no requirements since he became president and he had no form of education. (en.wikepedia.org/wiki/Andrew Jackson). President Andrew Jackson was then censored because of this, Henry Clay was at the head of this censorship. Jackson later said Clay was "as reckless and full of fury as a drunken man in a brothel." In 1836, Andrew Jackson issued the Specie Circular or executive order requiring that anyone wishing to purchase government land such as the new Indian Territory had to pay in gold or silver bullion. The problem was that these small banks didn't have that kind of money; gold was worth a lot of money and banks simply didn't have the kind of money to spend on the gold bars that would soon become normal currency. This quickly led to the Panic of 1837, which plunged the economy into a depression. Hundreds of banks and businesses went bankrupt.
