Consumerism is a theory that contributes greatly to the enriched quality of life that Canadians enjoy. This economic theory allows consumer behavior to be central to economic decision-making, establishing higher employment rates, and initiating a significant increase in globalization. Consumerism is defined as linking prosperity to consumer demand and placing consumer behavior at the heart of economic decision-making. manufacturing. This means that we, as consumers, have the ability to influence the quality of life, citizenship and identity of ourselves and the people around us. Based on our values and beliefs about our identity, health and safety, employment, environment and product marketing, we can have a say in a given product by influencing its demand. This can be accomplished by deciding whether or not we want to purchase this product. However, the degree of influence can be significantly increased through the use of boycotts, when a group of consumers chooses not to purchase or use a product or service to bring about change. We can use this strategy to significantly attract the attention of the targeted company and push them to take into account the demand of us, consumers, and modify their actions accordingly. For example, in 2007, the Animal Rights Group launched a boycott against several cosmetic companies to stop testing of cosmetic products on animals...... middle of paper ......e goods shipped out of our ports to countries around the world. The interrelationship between consumerism and globalization helps create a global connection that most Canadians would be sorry to live without. Consumerism has proven to be a central element of today's society and economy. Its promotion of consumer interests allows us, as consumers, to manipulate different aspects of global businesses and markets. The ripple effect of consumerism is an important factor in maintaining the employment rate in Canada and improving the financial situation of each person. Globalization and its link to consumerism help create connections between people of all different backgrounds and expand global markets. Consumerism is proving to be a major component of today's society, improving the quality of life of Canadians. It could even be considered a culture that we all live in, which connects us to each other..
