In modern America, unless you go to a private school, the government provides you with a free education. This means that from around the age of six or seven to eighteen or nineteen, you get a free education designed to shape you for the rest of your life. This is a huge concept that citizens of many other countries cannot experience. It is not uncommon for citizens of other countries to not even receive an education unless their families are very wealthy; or it could be that only one child per family can go to school. In the United States, it is illegal for a child not to go to school. Not only does our government provide us with free education, but it also protects us by having clean water and healthy foods to eat, again something I believe most Americans take for granted. These and many other examples of what our great nation does for us are great examples of why I believe everyone has a responsibility to their country and for that reason I believe the United States should restore the project. When you think about it, the project could be designed to only require two years of service per person, a small sum for the almost twenty years of free education they gave you. I understand that it's always possible that you won't come back after serving your country, but if everyone was too afraid to enlist, we wouldn't even have an army. I realize that at present, based on our current standards and past participation, the size of our military is at an unprecedented level, but with the rise of terrorism around the world, I believe that our military forces can never be too large. If our country were to be involved in another major war, which is very likely, we would find that we could be outmatched and an army
