To effectively use the electronic health record, the nurse must have knowledge of technology in addition to clinical skills (Linder, e.tal, 2007). This is a common barrier to electronic health record implementation. Initially, converting from paper to electronic records is frustrating, and this is especially a problem for experienced nurses. Veteran nurses are used to a routine, pen and paper documentation is the only method of documentation they have ever known.
