Essay / Freedom is a service to happiness - 1183
Happiness and freedom may seem to be two different things; however, the two are related in that happiness can be achieved in the service of freedom. The feeling of happiness can be defined as a state of well-being characterized by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. To achieve happiness, there is no single path to get there. It differs from person to person. This means that some kind of power must be initiated to find the happiness one wishes to achieve. Freedom is necessary in the sense that everyone must seek their own definition of happiness and develop the plan they need to achieve it. This allows us to define what our own happiness is. Freedom is a service to achieving happiness because it allows the person to define their own desired path. A great conflict arises on the themes of freedom and happiness between Christ and the Grand Inquisitor, ally of Satan. The Grand Inquisitor explains to Christ how the rejection of the three temptations guaranteed the human being the choice of free will. The three temptations offered to Christ were the bread, the miracle and the power. During the first temptation, Christ did not accept the request to turn the stone into bread. Christ believed that people should live according to the word of God and not with material security like bread. In the second temptation, Christ refused to perform the miracle of being saved if he jumped from the mountain. Christ did not want to use this temptation to gain religious faith and have to prove his powers to others. The third temptation was the bid for power from all nations. Christ refused Satan's offer because he wanted human beings to have free will. Each temptation reflected the choice Christ made in the middle of the paper in the actions he could or could not take. Freedom brings happiness to a person to the extent that it opens up all possible opportunities. for a person to achieve their goal. If a person is forced into certain actions, he will be forced to do the things he wants to do. This will make it impossible to achieve the desired goal. In The Grand Inquisitor, Christ believed that human beings should have the choice of free will, because it will allow them to choose the path they most desire. It is not fair to confine someone to a path that will lead them to someone else's ideal path of happiness. Without freedom, they will be limited to what they can or cannot do. They will have to follow this one path and will not be able to seek their own. Thus, freedom is a service to achieve happiness because it allows the person to define their own path..
