The purpose of this essay is to examine various approaches to being a working mother or being on maternity leave. Obvious advantages and disadvantages as well as current possibilities in our country will also be discussed. A new adjustment to maternity leave in the Czech Republic came into force five years ago. Currently, not only is either parent allowed to stay home with a child, but they can also choose the two-year, three-year, or four-year option. The ability to choose is most appreciated. Therefore, the new variant of two-year maternity leave is aimed at women in high positions who want to return to work earlier and who at the same time do not want to face a sharp drop in their income. What is positive for students or unemployed mothers is that in addition to receiving state parental benefit, they have the right to earn an unlimited second income each month.
