Physicians generally do not practice in isolation, but benefit from the skills of several other healthcare professionals and staff members who assist them in providing patient care. Mutual respect and effective communication are other essential elements of an effective teamwork model, and with the new technological age, they are somewhat under threat. In the age of technology and reliance on the Internet and email communication, it has become more difficult to maintain mutual respect and effective communication. Another study on professionalism highlights that although universal expectations and standards have been defined in existing codes of ethics and conduct in academic medicine, there are few professional development programs to date that currently teach faculty and residents the ethics of appropriate educational relationships between teaching staff and students, trainees, residents, researchers and other trainees. This study suggests that a professional model be incorporated into medical training with a basis of criteria to be used for the assessment of professional profile development.
