  • Essay / The different types of diabetes - 872

Diabetes is a metabolic disease also known as diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is when a person has high blood sugar or also called sugar, diabetes affects 7% of the population. Diabetes occurs when the body cannot control its blood sugar levels or maintain them at a homeostasis level. There are two types of diabetes and the one that occurs when a woman is pregnant is type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. There are different treatments and ways to live with diabetes. Normal blood sugar level is between 80 and 120 mg/dL. If the blood sugar drops below 80 mg/dL, it is called hypoglycemia, and if it drops below 40 mg/dL, it is called a hypoglycemic crisis. If blood sugar exceeds 120 mg/dL, it is called hyperglycemia. When blood sugar exceeds 400 mg/dL, it is called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic coma (HHNC). If the blood sugar then exceeds 800 mg/dL, it is a hyperglycemic crisis. Hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar drops below 80 mg/dL. This can happen when a patient does not eat a meal and their sugar levels drop or when a patient takes their insulin and then does not eat a meal. When a patient is hypoglycemic, some of the signs they may exhibit may be hunger, pale, clammy, or damp skin, sweating or sweating, anxiety or combativeness, weakness on one side of the body, and mimicking stroke, seizures, fainting and their mental state may change. When a patient has hypoglycemia, they should eat a good meal or drink juice to raise their blood sugar levels. If the patient has an altered mental status, they should not eat or drink anything because they cannot control their airways. In these cases, you have to call 911. When a paramedic arrives, it's in the middle of a paper... and causes fewer complications. A patient with type 2 diabetes should also eat healthy and exercise, but for him it is more important because if he does not do this, his type 2 diabetes could become type 1 diabetes. But if a patient with type 2 diabetes eats healthily and exercises, they may be able to cure type 2 diabetes and no longer suffer from it as long as they eat well, exercise, and maintain a healthy weight. The body uses glucose for its main source of energy and all cells in the body use glucose to function properly. Some cells cannot function without glucose. Brain cells can suffer permanent damage when glucose levels in the body are very low. Insulin is needed by the body to allow glucose to enter cells. If the body does not have enough insulin, the patient will have high blood sugar but it will not be able to enter the cells to be used..
