Francis Njoh Second Draft Composition 2 Information Age In the world we live in, everything is constantly changing over the last 20 years, we have evolved technologically for centuries mobile phones the size of mini-trash cans to GPS systems capable of giving directions. to anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye, with constantly evolving technology. The world is constantly changing and the way we function at home, work and school is changing too. Computers in classrooms are becoming more and more familiar and a staple in our classrooms. It is essential that administrators support and encourage computer technology in our educational systems. Firstly, we must first study the definition of technology in order to understand its proper role in education. According to Noah Webster, one of the founding fathers of American scholarship and education, in 1828 defined technology as “a description of the arts or a treatise on the arts.” (Miller, 2008) Today, Merriam-Webster, the modern predecessor of Noah Webster, first defines technology as the practical application of knowledge, especially in a particular field. (Miller, 2008) Therefore, applying the modern definition of technology as it relates to its place in the classroom, technology in education is not an alternative; this is crucial in today's world. Which means that the word “technology” refers to all the most advanced technologies available for teaching and learning at a given time. Today, technology in the classroom naturally includes the use of computers and the Internet. Therefore, using the right tools in the classroom will prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow and the new world of tomorrow. Computers are essential in education because they force us to reconsider how people learn, how they are middle of paper......ignore technology in classrooms. We must find meaningful ways to better implement educational technology in the information age. We must first ask questions about how, why, where and when technology should be used (Miller, 2008). The purposes of classroom technology must be clearly and specifically defined so that classroom technology is most useful to learners. , teachers and especially society. The advantages discussed regarding computer technology in the classroom outweigh the disadvantages. Computer technology is the best way to bridge the gap between education and the technological world in which today is called the information age. Computer-assisted technologies in schools provide students with the best access to information and a thirst for learning, not to mention a good start in a very important professional skill and high quality of work in the classroom..
