  • Essay / Survey of the Old Testament - 1544

The Old Testament is a library of 39 books inspired by God. The Old Testament can be divided into 5 divisions: law, history, wisdom and poetry, major prophets and minor prophets. By reading and studying the Old Testament, one can conclude that the world is extremely complex and did not come into play by chance. The Big Bang theory may fill the void for many, but something didn't add up to me, and if that was actually what happened, then who started the Big Bang. Think about how complicated this world is and how everything is connected. The earth is placed at a perfect distance from the sun, if it were closer everything would burn on the surface and placed a little further away everything would be frozen. God is the great creator of everything as we know it. God only used 6 days to create the world and no one else can accomplish this feat even if they had a million years. God created man and man ruled over the animals and fish of the sea. Man had a direct relationship with God, this relationship was personal. Adam was in a justified state in the garden, because he was sinless and immortal. Adam and Eve did not listen to a simple command from God not to eat from the tree of knowledge (Genesis 2:16-17, KJV). Looking at this major failure, man went from eternal life to his numbered days. “Man also had to work the earth with the sweat of his brow, and women had to endure pain in giving birth. God's creation fell from grace and God recognized this and already had a plan for man to reconcile himself to his previous relationship. The Old Testament establishes the fundamental morality of Christianity, in Genesis you see that God created Adam and Eve. Man was by design intended to be associated with women, not man to man or women...... middle of paper ......ents or did not recognize his great sovereignty. Look at King Nebuchadnezzar, he would own up to everything he did and not give glory to the Lord, so the Lord made him act like a beast of the field and he went crazy, then the Lord restored him only when he was tired of his situation and was ready to admit it. We see that every day we get up, it is not of our own free will, but it is the grace and mercy of the Lord. It was a very enriching experience for me, I consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to study the word of the Lord. page=82 http://bywhatauthority.com/biblebooks.pdf http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rebellion © 2013 Merriam-Webster, Incorporated http://www.gordonconwell.edu/semlink/Resources- Old Testament Resources OT500.cfm
