Although he confessed to the murders during police questioning, Dahmer initially pleaded not guilty to all charges. However, against the advice of his legal advisor, he changed his plea to guilty by reason of insanity (Biography.com editors). The court quickly declared Dahmer guilty, but also insane in all courts of law. Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life sentences, or 957 years in prison (Biography.com editors). Dahmer's 15 consecutive year sentence would end on November 28, 1994. Dahmer was sent to work for the prison with two other men, but only one man would return to the prison.
