  • Essay / The Decision: Reflective Analysis on Enlisting in the Military

REFLECTIVE ANALYSISThe DecisionI am in the military and the decisions I make affect someone or something, directly or indirectly. My military status allows me to make all kinds of decisions, from what pens and furniture to buy to who to send to war, where and when. This particular decision I want to talk about is a decision that involved people's lives. This decision changed my outlook on life and the military as I knew it. I was in charge of this element that was getting ready to deploy, and we had just done a urinalysis in which two soldiers tested positive for marijuana, cocaine. and other barbiturates When a soldier tested positive for an illegal substance, this was a time when we were supposed to detain the individual, send them to the necessary facility to get help, and then discharge them from the army because we can no longer use this individual. When these soldiers tested positive, we tried to exclude them from the army but, since we are at war, the military objective now is to retain everyone. The army does not let anyone leave for mental, medication, medical or family reasons. The army does not have enough soldiers to support our formidable army, so it is holding back as many soldiers as possible. Anyway, because of this new MILPER message being spread throughout the military, I couldn't weed out these addicts or get them help before we deployed, so they had to deploy with us. Once we reached our undisclosed location, we established our communications and began engaging the enemy. Long story short, the individuals who tested positive in the 2 urine analysis lost their lives in one of the fights that took place, the other threw a grenade into the sleeping tent and killed several of his comrades. Even though they seemed like everything was fine, something was wrong and not only did I overlook it, but I shouldn't have deployed them with us, despite what the military dictated. Expected utility theory This is the normative theory (Plous, S). The decision I made in the first place was the normal decision that anyone would have made. The military tells you you will do something and you do it, without questioning or refuting it..
