Essay / Jack the Ripper - 1489
Throughout life we find many nightmares, many dark alleys, and many monsters under our beds and in our closets. The world has a dark side. There are people who scare, hurt, rape and kill for fun. Most of these people will be arrested, but many will not be and never have been. One of the baddest men in the world has never been arrested. In 1888, in east London, this man strangled and mutilated up to thirty women. This man is known today as Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper was an intelligent but wicked man. The number of his victims has never been precise. . “The generally accepted number is five, but it could be as small as three or even seven. The five “canonical” victims are Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly. Some theorists have left Stride and Kelly off this list, while others have added to it, arguing that Martha Tabram and Alice Mackenzie were also likely Ripper victims. Other theorists have mentioned up to ten, fourteen, even thirty victims, or even more, but with very fragile evidence” (case report). Jack the Ripper was also known as the Whitechapel Murderer. With Jack's victims, there were many patterns. Most of the women were aged 39 to 47. They lived in the East End and were involved in prostitution. These women were typical drunks and not all spoke with their husbands and families. Patterns were also found in the dates and times of the murders. Each murder was committed either on a weekend or a public holiday. This indicates that the Ripper had a regular job. The murders were also committed between midnight and 6 a.m. The five certain victims of Jack the Ripper were Mary Nichols who was murdered...... middle of paper ...sentenced to thirty years in prison, they linked him to six unsolved sexual assaults. While the dark side endures, it is evident that there are people who scare, hurt, rape, and kill for fun and pleasure. Jack the Ripper was an intelligent but wicked man. No one can tell you with distrust the true number of his victims or his identity. There were many suspects and even a copycat for The Ripper. Jack the Ripper was the baddest man in London in 1888.
