  • Essay / The Pros and Cons of Socialism - 1188

Student morale is often influenced by the grade that is rewarded for a student's efforts. A socialist approach to college grading can eliminate the incentive for effort. In this system, students who are not committed to achieving a high grade can refuse to work and still be assigned a grade. Although the motivation behind this system encourages justice, equity and quality, it can be argued that the socialist approach in the academic setting achieves the opposite results. In theory, a student who works hard will receive the same grade as a student who does not work at all. This can potentially cause a large number of students to refuse to work and result in a lower GPA among students. This in turn will have a negative effect on the University's economy. Large numbers of uneducated students can also harm the post-college workforce and create a domino effect that will hurt the entire economy. Although not an ideal solution, an increase in tuition fees can encourage students to redouble their efforts and improve their results.
