Essay / Who was Vsevold Pudovkin? - 1455
Vsevold Pudovkin was a Russian Soviet director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the great innovators, he taught and was the father of Soviet cinema Lev Kuleshov. He called up to fight in World War I while studying engineering in Moscow. After escaping German captivity, he was 25 when he returned to Russia, he began to study chemistry and physics, but after seeing the DW Griffiths film "Intolerance" he was inspired by the movie theater. He enrolled at the State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow in 1919. However, in 1919, cinema was still a very young art form and the ideas and techniques that are common today were then being developed . Pudovkin's most influential role in world cinema was his theories on montage. He noted that editing is an aspect of cinematic art, completely different from other art forms. He believed that editing shots together in a film is unlike anything else in written works, music, painting, or photography. He also noted that editing is not simply a way of putting together the shots that make up a scene, but rather a method of manipulating the audience by guiding the viewer's thoughts and emotional response. This could create visual metaphors and a way of suggesting a relationship between two seemingly unrelated shots, sounds similar to the Lev Kuleshov effect. He even goes so far as to say that the emotional content of a scene comes more from proper editing technique than from the actor's performance. Editing is not simply a method of joining scenes or pieces together, but a method that controls the "psychological orientation" of the viewer. ยป Vsevolod Pudovkin described plans as the premises that can be used to construct a scene; he built connections rather than conflicts in the middle of a paper......://nofilmschool.com/2013/10/pudovkin-montage-5-editing-techniques/.
