  • Essay / The importance of technology is changing the world

The fear of technology controlling people's lives is clearly apparent. Technologies such as computers and gaming consoles are believed to be responsible for the downfall of humanity. “It used to be that you could walk around town for a whole day without seeing everyone you knew. Now everyone you know is within reach, eliminating that certain psychological feeling that comes with seeing people” (nables, n/a). It is true that technology often draws an invisible boundary between reality and the digital world. But the individual is responsible for his own life, because it is not the fault of technology that leads to his demise. Some people point out that technology removes traditional life, such as writing on a piece of paper or reading a book. Various people prefer to read a post on social networks (Facebook) rather than reading a newspaper. “Students have always faced distractions and wasted time. But computers and cell phones, and the constant stream of stimuli they offer, pose a major new challenge to concentration and learning” (Richtel, 2010, p. 1). Certainly, technologies can pose a threat to cognitive learning. However, there are preventative measures such as limiting technology use during and right after school.
