  • Essay / German Jets - 1218

Throughout our lives we have seen large jet planes flying through the sky carrying people or maybe even goods dropped off somewhere, but have you ever wondered where did they come from? German scientist in World War II invented the jet engine. It started with rockets made by the VFR, then it led to rocket planes and jet planes. The history of German-made jet aircraft during World War II began with the rockets manufactured by the VFR (Verein Fur Raumschiffahrt). Rocket testing began in Berlin in 1930 and would forever change the face of warfare. The very first rocket tested by the VFR was launched in August 1930 under the name Mirack-1 (Minimum Rocket-1). The following year, in April 1931, a scientist named Atosnabruick Reinhold Tiling launched four solid fuel rockets, but he did not work for the VFR. One of the four rockets he launched had reached a height of 6,600 feet in the air at 700 mph, which was very astonishing at the time. He then built and launched two more rockets even more advanced than his first four. Amazingly, one of its two rockets reached a height of 32,000 feet in the air (German rocket during WWII). Then, in the spring of 1931, the VFR designed and tested the Mirak-2 which was similar to the Mirak-1. It was not as powerful as the rockets made by Atosnabruick. The VFR's next project was a series of rockets called the Repulsor which was named by a VFR member named Willy Lee. The Repulsor-1 was tested on May 14, 1931 and managed to reach a height of only 200 feet. The Repulsor series rockets keep getting better and better until they reach the Repulsor-4 which reaches a height of a mile, which must be amazing to see (German rocket during WWII). In 1932, VFR membership fell..... . middle of paper ......f the Me-262s left the hangars, because they were destroyed by Allied bombers. Of the 1,400 Me-262s produced, only 300 took flight (Me-262). Of the 300 who fled, two-thirds were lost in accidents. The main thing that doomed the GAF was the lack of raw materials to make all their jets and rockets, due to Allied bombing. This made the Me-262 unstable, which led to all the accidents. It also made them slower and less reliable (Werrell). During the flight, some planes broke up or the guns jammed (Me-262). This is basically the origin of Nazi Germany's jet planes with German engineers. Without it, we might not have had jets until the end of the war, if at all. I'm just glad the Nazis didn't actually win the war and the planes not working contributed to it..
