Essay / Drug and Substance Abuse in America - 654
A turn for the worse? As today's world continues to grow in different technologies, which are supposed to create a better and safer society, but are they leading down the path of destruction? According to the organization CASAColumbia, “more than one in seven Americans aged 12 and older suffer from an addiction to nicotine, alcohol or other drugs (2014). » This means that by age 12, one in seven CHILDREN would be addicted to alcohol or drugs. Drug addiction in the United States is widespread and definitely getting out of control. The sad thing about an addict is that they probably never dreamed of doing any type of drug, but when the doors close, they kill to get by, or even commit suicide. were discovered. The main substances commonly abused are alcohol and marijuana. Marijuana has been classified as a "gateway drug", meaning that most people start using marijuana first, and since the effect is not high enough, they move on to the next level of drug, who is today called “Molly”. Molly is essentially an extract of the purest form of Meth, and once you're addicted, it's the start of a horrible journey. According to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, “In terms of the harm caused to adolescents and our society, Meth is now the most dangerous drug in America (2012). » Addicts think drugs are the solution, but in reality, THAT'S THE PROBLEM. By reading the short story “Clean” by Amy Reed, I gained a better understanding of drug addiction and the causes that trigger it. In his novel, Reed depicts ordinary teenagers and then demonstrates how drugs and/or alcohol become a significant factor in the life of an average teenager. In the early 2000s, substance abuse is expected to continue, and it is imperative that more adolescents are educated about different substances and their effects on physical and mental appearance. More education courses are now needed due to the risk of losing an entire generation to the streets and the world of drugs and alcohol. The slow but safe use of drugs and alcohol is a problem that can be solved if proper precautions are put in place. If we, as Team America, act now to stop the spread of methamphetamine, alcohol, and other rapidly growing substances, there will be hope for America's future.Bibliographyhttp ://www.casacolumbia.org.
