The Gilded Age in AmericaThroughout United States history, the Gilded Age is considered a period that spans the last three decades of the 19th century. This period from the Civil War ended between 1865 and 1900. The term Gilded Age was coined by writers Charles Warner and Mark Twain in The Gilded Age: A Tale of Toady in 1873. They did so because They believed in it. to be an era that would be characterized by a variety of serious social problems camouflaged by tiny gold gilding. The Gilded Age was a time characterized by rapid economic growth, although significant social conflict was also prevalent. Railroads were considered the major industry, while mining, factory, and worker unions became increasingly important.
