  • Essay / What are the causal and negative effects of advertising?

“Most young Americans are too materialistic. They want to have almost all the trendy items as they are presented in the advertisements” (Livingstone & Helsper, 2006; 579). The inability or refusal of parents to purchase such items for them leads to parent-child conflicts. But for those who are able to obtain such things at the slightest demand, their lifestyle remains materialistic. Because most parents want to avoid such conflicts, they tend to provide the materials their children request. Lifestyle diseases, such as obesity, arise due to children demanding or buying too many advertised foods, some of which are fatty and not healthy for more than 20 years.
