  • Essay / Teen Depression and Suicide Essay - 707

I was at the point where my life was quickly slipping away from me and the truth was not inside the success, I felt helpless. I expected to discover an exit plan somehow, someone or something that would impact me on a higher path by pulling me out of the true opening I had immersed myself into. Suicide was the only answer. At least I thought so. If there were effective depression and suicide prevention programs to teach students safe and positive ways to cope with daily stressors in our school, I would not have thought suicide was my only option. For example, in the Surviving the TeensĀ© suicide prevention and depression awareness program, students learn to recognize the signs of depression and suicide through a range of educational activities, including: real-life stories of adolescents who have suffered from depression and suicide attempts, prevention materials, small group discussions, role plays and reading activities. These programs will teach teens how to recognize depression and suicidal behavior in themselves and their peers, and how to help struggling peers get the help they need.
