Essay / Obesity: Causes and Effects of Obesity - 1437
Nowadays, obesity is widespread in global communities and it is dangerous due to its effects on human beings. Are urban spaces a solution to this problem? If this is a solution, do engineers take full responsibility for it or is the involvement of others required? Additionally, there are examples of two cities that built urban centers to address the obesity problem. So, this essay is going to talk about the causes and effects of obesity in societies, the role of engineers in solving this problem and how the two case studies mentioned have tried to tackle the problem. Obesity is a serious problem in our societies today. , and a large number of people face it in many countries around the world, especially children (aged 9 to 14). It is dangerous because of the massive risks it can cause to the human body and brain. So, what is the real meaning of obesity and what are the main causes of this problem? According to (NHS, 2014) “Obesity is a term used to describe a person who is significantly overweight, with a lot of body fat. » This is a very common problem, because out of every four adults, there is one obese, and out of every five children, there is also one. But how do we know if we are facing this problem? There are many ways to tell if you are overweight or not, but the most useful and common method is the body mass index (BMI). The (BMI) scale is a way to measure your best healthy weight associated with your height. But what are the threats of obesity to human beings? It carries many risks that can affect the human body, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and can lead to certain types of cancer. However, it can affect the human brain or lead to a psychological situation for example depression. After talking about the risks of obesity...... middle of paper ......r there is the possibility of constructing urban spaces, and new buildings to make communities more active. But from my point of view, I think engineers are partly involved in this situation and they cannot make any changes without our help. Governments, families and doctors should help engineers solve this problem by encouraging people to be more active and follow a healthier lifestyle. lifestyle, for example New York City which builds urban spaces for people and raises awareness among citizens about obesity and its risks to increase physical activity there, despite the fact that the most important factor that can helping to prevent obesity is the obese person himself, if he is not convinced that obesity is a huge problem for him, this solution will not make anything different, so the most important thing is to persuade the person obese that the solution to this problem is in your hands..
