  • Essay / Can we really trust the media? - 1022

Can we really trust the news media? Can the people of the United States of America trust their modern news media? Since the beginning of colonization, various forms of media coverage have existed in this country. And for many years, the reliability of information disseminated by the media has been heavily scrutinized. It seems that this question is becoming more and more important in the 21st century. Ronald Roach, editor of DiverseEducation.com and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine, notes that "more than ever, America's news media is subject to public scrutiny because of the way journalists behave individually, in the way media coverage of major events is presented. and for the balance that media organizations claim to have in their media coverage” (Roach). Is the media a reliable source of information for the American people? No. Modern media is not a reliable source of news and information. Three main reasons for this lack of credibility are: many in the media industry are more concerned with profit than with facts, modern media generally try to cover up their mistakes, and the media has a long track record of distortion and falsification of facts. . We will now examine these three reasons in more detail. First, today's news media is not a source of accurate information because many in the media are more concerned with profit than with actual facts. It seems that the media, like politicians and others, care less and less about ethical standards and care more about how much money and power they can obtain. An author of Issues and Controversies points out that "the need of the press to attract viewers and readers, and so... in the middle of the newspaper... immediately, and only after its retirement is secure." Sunde discerns that "in his late resignation statement, Gartner did not seem fully aware of the enormity of his role in the near self-destruction of his once trusted and respected news organization, saying only that he hoped his departure would "attract attention”. of all of us and allow us to fully concentrate on our activity” (Rob Sunde).
