    The changes observed in modern society date back to the period of the 18th and 19th centuries. It was during this period that Western Europe experienced rapid economic growth and development. This occurred during the agrarian and industrial revolutions that swept Europe, mainly Western Europe, bringing in their wake rapid development and changing gender roles and lifestyles in general (Collins, 2006) . It was also in Western Europe that events such as the French Revolution caused massive changes in society, completely altering the way of life of its citizens. However, the change did not stop in Western Europe, but spread to other Eastern Bloc countries, such as Russia. This is mainly due to the influence exerted by bilateral relations. The changes thus brought about affect all spheres of people's lifestyles, including legal rights, access to education and positions of power, family size, fashion and patterns of socialization. Society at that time was dominated by men. Men enjoyed positions of power and responsibility and made all decisions regarding the family. Access to education was also the prerogative of male children. Rights such as inheritance and land were assigned to male offspring because of the continuity of the family. However, with changes in Western society, women began to enjoy some of these rights, although minimally at first. In France, the French Revolution brought about changes in the French education system (Tuminez, 2000). The French government was committed to creating an education system that would produce engineers, doctors, and economists who would help the country achieve economic power.
