Through the many obstacles America has faced; George Washington helped this free country come together and be made by the people for the people. We know him and call him by the title of Founding Father of the United States. In three important ways, Washington helped shape the beginning of our evolving civilization. For example, he commanded the Continental Army that won American independence from Great Britain, known as the Revolutionary War. He was also named president of the U.S. Constitutional Convention, which later drafted the U.S. Constitution. In addition to these achievements, which created a solid foundation for America, he became the country's first presidential leader. George Washington was born at Pope's Creek Plantation in Westmoreland County, Virginia on February 22, 1732. He was the son of Augustine Washington and her son. second wife, Mary Ball Washington. Following the death of Washington's father at a young age and the difficult experiences of colonial life on the edge of the wilderness, he learned that life was difficult. All of this guided him in his maturation as an enduring and persevering gentleman. Because of his great loss, Washington was unable to receive a formal education overseas in England as his older brothers had received. However, he was able to acquire academic knowledge from a private tutor similar to primary school lessons; he also studied on his own. As a young man helping his widowed mother raise a family, he took his first job, at sixteen, as the official surveyor of Culver County, Virginia. Due to George Washington's many achievements, he left an everlasting mark on the United States of America. He is nicknamed the “Father of the Country” because he guided his country just as a father cares for a growing child. No American has been more honored than George Washington.
