    If you watch movies these days, you know you're sure to see some sort of violence, whether it's murder, beatings or a cruel act. Now, every time you watch TV, you'll likely see an ad promoting a new movie with a catchy title such as "Scream" or "Fear." Whether you think these films are necessary or not, production companies know they will attract viewers and that's why they continue to make them. The other day I was watching a movie, with my lovely girlfriend of course, called "The Matrix". .” The title caught our attention as we browsed the aisles of the movie store looking for something good to watch. Seeing as how my girlfriend likes violence in movies and thinks it's unreal, this seemed like a pretty good choice. The back of the box showed no signs of violence and the description made no mention of shootings or murders. The beginning of the movie was okay but about a half hour in, as soon as we could blink, one of the characters pulls out a dozen machine guns intending to kill the whole town, I guess. After firing all 10,000 bullets at the ten guys he was trying to kill, my girlfriend stood up, walked over to the VCR in disgust, and pressed Stop before I could utter a word of protest. As you can see, these days there's not much you can do to avoid watching a movie that contains even a little violence. Why does violence attract us? ?...
