History speaks otherwise since marriage has existed in many different forms and definitions; ranging from arranged, political, commercial, open, same-sex marriages to polygamous marriages. Arranged marriages are (?) one of the oldest institutions of marriage and have existed either to promote a different cause or a marriage arranged by a third party who believes that the two people they have chosen are suitable for each other. Political marriages exist to unite two countries, encourage a positive relationship between two countries, or move up the political ranks of society. Business marriages are usually entered into with the aim of receiving wealth or gaining power. For example, a man or woman might have a goal of marrying someone of higher status or wealth and sharing their wealth or divorcing or divorcing shortly thereafter and getting half of their property. Before the 21st century, same-sex relationships were often religiously and culturally demeaned. Most states and even countries do not allow same-sex marriages and most unions occur unofficially and exist only in the form of a long-term relationship.
