  • Essay / Music Journal: Latin American Music Study - 550

    This semester I have spent a lot of time enjoying Latin American music, watching videos, and appreciating their beauty in the media center. Some albums like “ACJ Songbook” by Antonio Carlos Jobim and “Music of the Andes” by Carlos Santana impressed me deeply. Particularly, since I have a very busy workload this semester and always feel tired, I become quite relaxed while listening to “ASJ Songbook” by Jobim. I really admire its elegance and usually feel refreshed after leaving the media center. Additionally, some Tex-Mex tours gave me a perspective of the regional culture of the Texas-Mexico border. I really learned a lot from these songs. Carlos Santana is my favorite player. From the videos, I was amazed to see that he was a really talented and professional musician. He was so expert in guitar that he had already integrated himself into playing the guitar and was able to express his emotions from the guitar. I guess he was a typical right-brain artist and was creative in seeking to break through in his performances. For example, he innovatively moved from a fast tempo to a pleasant, gentle, slow style. ...
