  • Essay / Yemen, the Happy Land - 1604

Before wars, before conflicts, before all disasters, Yemen was known as the Happy Land. According to The Guardian, in ancient times, Yemen was known as Arabia Felix, Latin for “happy” or “fortunate.” Today, because of the civil war and the rise of people against each other and against the government, these labels have lost the validity of these labels. According to Every Culture Magazine, the country's name is derived from the legendary ancestor Yaman, the son of Qahtan, or from the Arabic root ymn ("the right") since Yemen is located to the right of the sanctuary of Mecca, the Kaaba. Some scholars compare the Arabic word yumna ("happy") with the Roman name for southwestern Arabia, Arabia Felix ("happy Arabia"). Yemen is a religious country, with vibrant cultures, each promoting a different lifestyle, delicious cuisine, an average economy, and top-to-bottom relationships with other countries. Yemen is an Arab country located on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. According to the World Population Review, Yemen is one of the oldest civilizational centers in the Northeast and the first country on the Arabian Peninsula to grant women the right to vote. In terms of size, Yemen is about average for Middle Eastern countries. This amazing country is the second largest country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula with a coastline of 2,000 kilometers. As Country Economy reports, Yemen ended 2012 with a population of 23,852,409 people, an increase of 548,203 people from 2011. The estimated population of the former "Happy Land" is 25.5 million; an increase from 23.88 million in 2013. Yemen's population is made up of many diverse groups. Although 90% of Yemenis are Arab Muslims with Yemeni heritage, there are other...... middle of paper ......ure and political views. On the other hand, the southern plains regions are mainly inhabited by the Shafi community of Sunni Muslims, who also have a different culture from that of Shia Muslims. Yemen is a country that retains many of its cultural traditions. On earth, every country has its differences and what makes it unique, and Yemen is no different. Coffee, food, religion, nature and the incredible love between people make Yemen an incredible country to visit or live in. Yemen has had its ups and downs, but the heart remains the same. The support people give to their government is outrageous and the belief in their religion (Islam) is truly heartbreaking. It doesn't matter if you are white or black, Jewish or Christian, Arab or non-Arab, the people of Yemen will always accept you as you are and welcome you as one of their own..
