  • Essay / The Deception of Addiction in Beautiful Boy By David Sheff

The father is a great writer; he does a great job throughout the story of allowing the reader to almost step into his feelings and thoughts in many different situations. This allowed the reader to feel like they were going through the experience with him. It presents a lot of research and facts about the substance methamphetamine and the effects it presents to the user. The author leaves the reader with the idea that David had no idea what impacted his son's addiction. The story doesn't give a definitive ending, because the reality of addiction is that there really is no end, it's a continuous journey. This novel could really help people who are going through a similar situation, letting them know that they are not alone. This novel receives a rating of seven out of ten due to the amount of background reading that is not necessary to do in the first, it gives a boring appeal to the story.
