    IntroductionFalling soldiers, flying bullets, rising tensions, the Persian Gulf War was an important war in terms of modern American history. The Cold War was a period of nationwide unease, from the end of World War II in 1945 until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. After the poor end to the Vietnam War in the early 1990s 1970, the United States remained out of the war for another 20 years. When Iraq threatened to invade Saudi Arabia in the late 1990s, the United States knew it had to intervene. After about two decades without a war, America was unsure how its military ranked internationally, especially against an Iraqi army that was the second largest in the world (Smith 2013). Shortly after coalition forces were stationed in the Middle East, the invasion of Iraq began. First weakening the targets with naval strikes, ground forces overran Iraqi forces and liberated Kuwait. From its beginning, the war ended in favor of the coalition forces. This victory helped establish once again that the United States is a world power in military forces. Due to the difficult causes of the war, the duration of the battle was quick and led to positive consequences for American soldiers. Through blood, sweat and tears, the soldiers managed to fight their way through the harsh conditions of the Persian Gulf War. The United States has proven once again that freedom is not free and that soldiers will do anything to protect their freedom..
