Organized crime is defined as systematic illegal activity aimed at taking advantage of a city, state or illegal profit on an international scale. These criminal organizations keep their activities secret. In some cases, gangs can be considered sufficient and systematic enough to qualify as organized. Criminal organizations in general need help from society or someone of high political standing to help them carry out their illegal processes. These may include law enforcement agencies, judges, and other important political figures. Without the participation of these important individuals, organized crime could not exist. There are many examples of organized crime. The first type I will talk about is racketeering. The most commonly used mafia racket is an organized conspiracy to commit extortion. Labor racketeering is an example of racketeering that involves the misuse of organized labor for criminal purposes. This may include exploitation of employers, union members, or both. Employers may have an incentive to pay employees who do not work. They may also be forced to pay money to corrupt officials to ensure industrial peace and avoid publicity. Unionized workers contribute to a pension that can be managed for the interests of the mob rather than for workers' retirement. The most widespread and popular organized crime system is the mafia. This organized crime unit emerged from close-knit immigrant groups who did not trust local authorities. The Mafia is also known as La Cosa Nostra or the Mob. The name mob was a generic name for clandestine organizations in Sicily and the United States. The Mafia arrived in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Italians newly arrived in the United States spoke little, if any, English. They grouped together in the same neighborhood... middle of paper... which allows both sides to have advantages in getting the job done. When agencies work together to achieve a primary goal or objective, the job will be accomplished and those who disobey the law will be punished. Those who suffer from these organized crime systems will also get peace and justice. The organized crime we once knew in America has changed. Although the mafia is familiar to us from Hollywood films, the threat of organized crime is much greater. International terrorist groups and the financial gains they receive from organized crime groups must be stopped. With new knowledge on the subject of organized crime, Americans can now know that the situation is being managed and that safety and well-being are guaranteed. As a national, we will do everything in our power to be free and promote the well-being of all. Our history has shown this and will prevail in the future.
