Failing to provide adequate safety in the workplace can be devastating. Companies put their employees at risk when they fail to implement a plan of action that employees are required to follow in a crisis. Although it can be difficult, administrators must ensure that adequate safety measures are implemented to save lives in the workplace. They must therefore pass laws to protect workers. Two examples are provided to describe the tragedies that gave rise to much-needed regulations to protect workers and to identify the role of administrators in protecting Americans. The Triangle Waist Company was one of the largest manufacturers of women's blouses. The company was located in a 10th floor building in New York. The Triangle Waist Company was a thriving business at the time, as the shorts market had been extremely profitable until it was consumed by fire. The Triangle factory fire was a tragedy where many works died because the company had no safety procedures in place. . When the fire broke out, employees didn't know exactly what to do. The flames moved from floor to floor, eventually engulfing the entire building. Workers tried to contain the fire with water, a fire hose from which no water flowed. Workers attempted to escape the building, but for many this proved impossible. Most of the doors were locked. Most doors opened inward and could not be opened from the inside for workers outside the door trying to escape. Workers on different floors attempted to contact other floors. However, the message failed to reach some floors. The elevator only occupied a small number of workers. The fire escape collapsed under some workers. Many jump to their death. The chances of survival were almost impossible. Following the fire, New York City implemented fire, safety and building codes. Sanctions were also imposed on those who did not comply with the regulations. Other states imposed regulations similar to New York's since "the fire and large number of deaths exposed the dangerous conditions and the risk of fire was ever-present in these high-rise factories" (Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, nd). Federal laws were passed because of the incident. , American workers now have guidelines to follow to ensure their safety in the workplace. Another tragedy that cost lives was the fire at the Happy Land Social Club in the Bronx, New York..
