Essay / Heathrow Airport Analysis - 2420
IntroductionI chose Heathrow Airport for my report because it is one of the most unlikely airports in the world. It is used by more than 90 airlines carrying many passengers to 170 destinations. In my report, we will first provide a brief overview of Heathrow Airport, then demonstrate the environmental impacts on noise, air, water, waste and biodiversity. The current management policies and strategies are outlined in details of Heathrow Airport and how the airport can make improvements in certain areas is concluded at the end. Background Heathrow Airport began during the First World War. The Air Ministry took control of Heathrow to become a Royal Air. Force Transfer Station in 1943. Land was taken from Harmondsworth and construction began in 1944. Wimpey Construction built the new airport and it was named Heathrow after the hamlet. The Royal Air Force never used the airport and control transferred to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 1946. The Minister for Aviation, Lord Winster, officially opened the airport on 25 March 1946. The May 31, 1946, the airport was inaugurated. use publicly. In 1947 it had three runways and three more were under construction. Queen Elizabeth II launched the first modern runways in 1953. Queen Elizabeth II also launched the Europa building, currently known as Terminal 2, in 1955. Again in 1961, the Ocean Terminal, known as terminal 3, has been detached to deal with the flight which departs for long-haul routes. At that time, Terminal 1 was also inaugurated in 1968. In 1970, the cargo terminal was built and connected to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 by a tunnel. There were many more development processes underway between 1970 and 1990, including expansion...... middle of paper ......y and a strategy for each area aimed at minimizing impacts on the environment to prove that London is green. To reduce emissions, Heathrow's owners should propose a system of penalties for polluting vehicles and introduce taxes to promote the use of low-emission aircraft. They can also improve by using covered vehicles for transportation and wheel washing with cushioning to minimize dust emissions. For the improvement of biodiversity areas, the airport should create a group to save important species and carry out replacement and refurbishment of ponds. Furthermore, to minimize hydrological and ecological changes, they should design river channels. The airport should have demonstrated more and more powerful actions to combat the impacts on its environment, as they affect public health, which is of greater concern for a country..
