The only previous classroom experience I had was encouraging support and running a small seminar with high school students in the presence of a teacher. I was now being asked to plan and run my own lessons without any support or training. This was not only unfair to me, but it was also a disservice to the students. The district in which these students attend school is historically underserved and therefore cannot provide its teachers and students with adequate support to succeed. I felt like I was contributing to a broken system. Knowing my concerns were not being heard, I made the decision to take on my challenge.
