Greek members and student athletes are more involved in drug and alcohol use than non-life or Greek athletes. Peer pressure and exposure in their environment impact their drug and alcohol use. For most students, they enjoy going to college to have new opportunities to experience college life and experience different things. The United States has more than 7,000 higher education institutions and more than 15 million students (Brain Track, 2013). Drug and alcohol use is not new to college life. Experimenting with drugs and alcohol has consequences. Alcohol and drug violations simply mean that students are not following the policies implemented by colleges. Approximately 110,000 college students were arrested for alcohol-related offenses, such as public intoxication or driving under the influence (College Drinking, 2013). Gallaudet University had 276 drug violations and 5 arrests, while alcohol violations were 213 with 0 arrests. Greek organizations and athletes are more likely to drink and take drugs more often. Literature Review Different factors have an effect on drug use: parenting styles, availability of drugs, emotional reasons, sports participation and the Greek system (Brousseau and Baron, 2008). Students use drugs (including alcohol) for a variety of reasons. A study was done with Seattle University students to determine drug exposures. A total of 218 students participated in the study with a 21-question survey.
